Inside a reinforced operations tent at Kadugli Airport, the largest humanitarian aviation base in South Kordofan, the air smelled of aviation fuel, dust and hot electrical equipment. Outside, floodlights illuminated rows of aircraft waiting on the apron—transport planes, utility helicopters and medical evacuation aircraft prepared for another day in a war that seemed to have no end.
